Reinado is demanding the removal of international judges before he hands himself over to police.

Reinado has been on the run with a group of armed supporters since he escaped from Dili's jail more than a year ago.

He still faces a murder charge over his role in last year's violent crisis.

The rebel leader has told Radio National's Background Briefing program he will not surrender while East Timor's court system is corrupted by judges and lawyers from other countries.

"Those countries come here, the Portuguese speaking countries, mostly Angola, Mozambique, Brazilian, and Portuguese," he said.

"All those poor Africans that until now they still kill each other, they have their dictator system. And you have Portugal, they think they are somebody, but they're the poorest country in Europe."

I heard this interview in full. It is interesting that of all the outrageous things he said, and he said many, this is the one that ABC picks up on. He also said he did not trust either Horta and Xanana and that he would not give himself up unless they would also be in the witness box with him to answer their responsibility for the crisis.
But he also said the Prosecutor General should be there too. There will noone left to try him after he has disqualified everyone for one reason or another.
He also laughed at Horta's attempts to broker a peace plan with him and at the National and International NGOs holding dialog with him. He said this of Movimento Unidade Nacional Justica (MUNJ) "This is not an NGO. This is a group we set up." And of the Geneva Center for Dialog: "They only arranged one meeting with the president and I because they did not get the US$5 million they had to get to do this job". He said other things.

But also importantly is that he said he would never hand in his weapons because they do not belong to anyone except the people and ask the people they want him o keep the weapons. he says he is maintaining peace with them. So much for the PMs peace plan. He was really annoyed a number of times when the reporter asked him about laying down arms....he said he would never do that and people should not just keep talking about that....why should he hand over his arms. He denied at least twice being able to engage in a political solution effort. sates he is a military figure and "thats that". he says he is not like the other politicians, like Xanana and Horta and others who promise this and that.

In contrast Alkatiri's name only came up once.....and in the context of Horta and Xanana having to go to court. He said Alkatiri should also be a witness in court to answer for things done during the crisis.

So why is the ABC just interested in this line about the judges? Because it suits their government's line also. And who was their translator for the reporter Chris Buckley when he met with Reinado and others, Ceu Lopes, of Timor Aid fame. Will she and her husband Juan Federar, both close allies of Horta, ever answer for the wasted millions from their "aid junket" in 1999 - 2003 with money from donors? I don't think so. Juan Federer, thanks to Horta is now running an international UN approved NGO and making lots of money. Nice work if you can get it.

It's quite interesting, to hear Mr.reinado's statement regarding to the independent judiciary system in East Timor. But he must understand the justice could not serve interest of anybody, so as good citizen he should surrender himself to justice.

Every time he boost through international media, that he defend the justice but not in practice.

The last point, I’d like to point out here is supremacy of law. He should understand the clear separation of power between state institutions which in practice all the state institutions must act in way which is compatible with constitutions, none of them should overlap their functions.

Not like now, Mr. Ramos Horta asked the court to suspend the warrant arrest to Reinado.that's is not true :) this is completely against the rule of natural justice.

Viva Justice
